After a very busy start to the new year, we have an even more exciting series of activities planned for February and March.
On the 13th of January, myself and European funding specialist Daniel Smith from DSC Regen had a very successful meeting with Vicente Torres, president of the Consell Insular, plus Vicente Torres chief of the island tourism department, in order to discuss the Ibiza Fènix project and see where we could interface our activities with those of the local administration.
We are now invited back for further discussions with Vicente Torres from the Tourism department on the 8th of February, where we hope to investigate the possibilities of working together on a plan to introduce Educational Tourism as a big part of the low season offer for the island, using the recently formed NGO Ibiza Fènix.
The idea is to develop a serious study project, which will eventually be presented to the island council and which could form the basis for an attractive Alternative Tourism offer, which will take us a few steps further towards our goal of making Ibiza a famous sustainable tourism destination.
Bearing in mind that the main industry in Ibiza is based on seasonal tourism, we consider that any attempt at improving the quality of life for local residents must be somehow aligned with that industry and the multitude of associated business opportunities it involves.
Please see our new Ibiza Fènix website, which although still in its embryonic stage, will be constantly under construction as the project develops exponentially into a full scale ‘social engineering’ programme, using ‘synergy into Action’ and which has the possibility to have game-changing repercussions both for Ibiza and for other sensitive tourist destinations world wide. Events and workshops at Casita Verde
Do you dream of living in a community? Are you interested to be a part of creating and living in an ecological progressive conscious community?
If so please come along to hear and participate in a presentation on an Eco-village project in Portugal which is embarking on the journey now. This Sunday 12th February starting at 2pm until 6pm at Casita Verde who are kindly hosting us.
We are aiming to gather together 50 households to live according to Permaculture principals in the southern part of Portugal, where land is affordable, the climate is good and many conscious people are being called to be part of creating progressive alternatives to the dominant cultural paradigm. So far we have about 20 households participating in these early stages of the community, but are interested to encourage more people from a diverse range of nationalities and backgrounds to join us for the journey!
Please contact Ben Christie email@example.com +44 7957 681 574 for more details on the project, and please come along on Sunday if you can.
Also this month we have the following practical workshops given by Dutch Builder / Carpenter, Dorus Rijkers:
Thursday 16th February – Portable Solar Energy system, with an 800w maximum output.
Thursday 23rd Februrary – Portable Eco-toilet, suitable for installation anywhere and made from recycled materials.
Thursday 2nd March – Solar domestic hot water system, also made from recycled materials and suitable for small houses, eco showers etc.
A minimum donation of 50€ is requested for each workshop and includes a Casita Verde style healthy lunch and refreshments. Workshops begin at 10am and finish at 5pm.
Places are limited to 10 persons per workshop, so if you’re interested, please get in contact and book, by leaving a deposit of 20€, either at the Forada market on Saturdays, or at Casita Verde on Sundays.
Dorus also offers a 3 day intensive course on Rocket stove design, building and installation on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of March, between 10am and 5pm.
For this workshop, we ask a minimum of 200€ donation, which includes refreshments and lunch each day. There is also a possibility of on site accommodation for non residents on request. Although the main language for these workshops will be English, we can also arrange for translations into Spanish where necessary.
Anyone interested, please get in touch as soon as possible by phone or email, as places are limited.
Ana Digón – Introduction to Facilitation for effective meetings
Another very interesting and timely workshop is offered by our ex-vice president and colleague Ana Digón, who now lives in Mallorca, after spending six years helping to develop the foundations for the Greenheart Ibiza organisation between 2002 and 2008. This workshop will also take place at Casita Verde on Thursday 16th of February, between 3pm and 7pm, up in our comfortable and cosy Gala tent.
This workshop will be given in Spanish, since it is particularly designed for local group leaders and NGO presidents etc, in order for participants to become more efficient at making meetings and especially finding ways to get the most benefit from such events.
This workshop is offered for a group between 10 and 20 individuals and includes natural Casita Verde style refreshments throughout the session. A donation of between 10 and 30€ is requested from those who wish to participate, depending on their financial situation and their appreciation of the workshop content .
Finally, we would like announce that the Casita Verde Granada project will now begin during the first half of March, by which time, we will have constructed the major components of the new centre here at Casita Verde (see workshops list), and will be ready to transport all the necessary materials over to the new site, together with a selected team of installers, some of whom will become part of the Granada Ecologic core team into the future.
Don’t forget, that if you have any questions about alternative lifestyle techniques, or want to know how you can be a more eco-conscious citizen, please come and see us on Sundays, or Thursdays at Casita Verde, Saturdays at the Local products market in Forada, or participate in our weekly cleaning events with the Ibiza Limpia campaign.
Also, we now have the Eco-wagon set up as a display centre for the various eco-building projects you can make yourself at home, or for which we offer workshops at Casita Verde with carpenter / builder Dorus Rijkers from Amsterdam.
These include such things as making a worm farm, installing a Rocket Stove heater, a portable eco-toilet, making a portable solar power generator, or building a solar water heater from recycled materials. (check us out on www.facebook.com/CasitaVerdeIbiza for more info on events and workshops at Casita Verde).
You can also get in touch by email, sending your request to firstname.lastname@example.org, or calling our main office on 971 187353.
With warm greetings from Casita Verde,
