Here we are in the fabulous month of March, when all things begin to grow and projects start to blossom. As an ecological organisation with many different branches of activities, we are of course very busy growing a diverse collection of exciting projects which include:
- The Ibiza Fènix project.
- The Granada Casita Verde and Granada Ecologic project.
- Continue the growth of our Casita Verde eco-centres to include a third one in Colorado and another in Gascony during the next two years.
- The new Ibiza Limpia NGO and associated connections to other similar initiatives, both in Ibiza as well as on other islands in the archipelago.
At our local base in Casita Verde Ibiza, we continue to improve our existing structures and add more useful infrastructures to the existing model of an active eco-educational centre. This means we’ll have more opportunity to offer exciting workshops on sustainable lifestyle techniques, as well as have the possibility to invite more interested people to pass by and visit us.
Some of the new structures and infrastuctures are:
The ‘Tiny home’ caravan being built by Dutch Carpenter / builder Dorus Rijkers, is an ongoing project which will probably take a year or more to complete, since it’s made almost completely with recycled materials and gives also the opportunity for other members or interested individuals to come along and help build.
Nearly all of the main structure of the caravan is made from used pallets, which we have collected from various businesses around the island, plus a few that we had to buy in order to continue the basic framework on which the caravan is constructed. This ‘Tiny Home’, when completed, will be a miniature version of the Casita Verde, used primarily as a showcase of ecological living techniques for people who don’t have time to visit the whole centre, or who simply wish to see how they could live in such an environmentally friendly fashion without spending loads of money.
Improvement of the cultivations in Casita Verde, with the inclusion of a special ‘natural herb and aromatic plant garden‘, set up and operated by Pharmacist Steffi Amores and her Agronomist boyfriend Alberto Párraga.
The installation of a special ‘wildlife pond’ in front of the threshing circle and next to the children’s play area. This was started last summer time, but is a long process due to the amount of work required to dig and form the 10 metres wide area, plus install the lining, solar electric pump and circulating systems and will hopefully be completed before the end of May this year. The idea of this pond is to collect rainwater during the rainy season, plus demonstrate how we can effectively keep the whole system topped up during the long summer months without rain. The pond should attract all kinds of local wildlife, including frogs, dragon flies, birds and bees, plus any other wildlife that needs to drink.
We’ll be working on this exciting development every Thursday if anyone wishes to join in, so please get in touch with us if you’d like to do a day volunteering at Casita verde and be a part of the ‘wildlife pond’ project.
